WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM SAMUEL EVANSON

Sinner’s’ is a dynamic new single by singer/songwriter Samuel Evanson. Labelled a ‘rising star in the indie game’ by Wonderland Magazine, Evanson continues his hot run of form with the track. The catchy hit is his first single since his debut album, We Are Meant To Break the Rules (2024).

The Welsh-born, Liverpool-bred artist has shown himself to be one to watch in the indie-pop world since the release of his debut single, ‘She Was Blind’, in February this year. With songs full of honest lyricism and a fresh, vibrant sound, ‘Sinners’ is perhaps Evanson’s most compelling track yet.

Evanson’s distinctive image and sound are expanded upon in ‘Sinners’. It retains the addictive melodies and style of other singles such as ‘All of a Sudden’ while honing in on a more quintessential, dancefloor filler pop sound. Evanson’s powerful vocal range channels heavyweights such as Sam Smith and Charlie Puth, veering away enough from bland conventionality.

Gone are jangly guitars and indie influences evident on ‘She Was Blind’. The new release is etched with grand synth soundscapes and plush production, which perfectly accompanies the rising star’s voice with its 80s twist only adding to the layered sound. Electro-pop icons Pet Shop Boys are present in the frank and upfront lyrical content and along with other tracks in Evanson’s discography, ‘Sinner’s’ tells a personal story.

The lyrics detail a toxic relationship and the insanity and misguided nostalgia that can accompany an especially severe breakup, ‘I wish we could go back, to when we were young and started to crack, I wish we could go back and do it again’. This sentimental theme coincides with the chorus’s singability and contrasts the song’s upbeat melodies.

‘Sinner’s’ is a rousing display of Evanson’s evident talent and an addictive three-and-a-half minutes.
